this post is one day late but i know you wouldn't mind it at all, after what i've done for you. *yucks*. i STILL can't get over the fact that i ACTUALLY bought you a bouquet of R-E-D ROSES. so...... pei. *shiver*

but anyway, i hope you had a GREAT GREAT GREAT celebration with your beloved friends that night, and a warm little birthday dinner with your beloved family. and i hope you like what i bought for you. but those are just part of the package la. not the whole package. since you came all the way to the ulu town to blow balloons for me, it's just fair that i do something nice for you as well.

so, yeah. HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY! 生日快樂! i lap you :D

end of my undergraduate course
Wednesday, November 21, 2007 8:50 pm

this morning's international finance paper marked the end of my bachelor of commerce degree at the university of melbourne. that was my last paper in my 3 years of undergraduate study here in melbourne. one last visit to the beautiful royal exhibition building for an examination.

and what better way to celebrate with a shopping trip to chadstone's vip sale. bought just 4 items in a span of 6 hours. 2 pairs of shoes, a top and a pair of earrings. but i am already very satisfied. too bad i didn't have the chance to meet someone today. but i'm certain we'll definitely meet up "a couple of times" before my departure.

tomorrow's agenda will be: wake up at 3pm, lunch at subway/dessert house (again), "Phantom" show at night, dinner at some random new place, online and waste time, sleep

girls night out
Saturday, November 17, 2007 9:12 pm

hello hello. i'm behaving as though my exam has ended but in fact, i still have one more paper next wednesday. a supposedly hard subject. not that i know how true that statement is given that i have yet to start studying for it.

had dinner with the girls (minus 1) yesterday night at horoki, the winner of The Age Cheapeats 2007. have been wanting to go there for a looooooooong time after 2 failed attempts; one, it was closed and another, it was fully booked. the place is quite small and doesn't really look like a japanese restaurant. maybe that's because it serves jap fusion food.

ordered 5 dishes at first and added 3 more. it was so so so so so so GOOD. the food was just simply amazing. we ordered tuna carpaccio, softshell crab with sour cream mayo, stuffed chicken wings with pork gyoza, tuna and tofu salad, grilled octopus with garlic butter, chicken with yuzu flavour, roast duck with eggplant and egg noodle with spicy cod roe butter.

after dinner, wanted to go to Koko Black on Collins Street but it was closed. decided to go to Max Brenner at QV instead. stopped by at the square at the corner of collins and swanston (couldn't remember the name) and took some pictures with the artificial (read: plastic) christmas tree.

managed to get a table at Max Brenner despite the crowd there. ordered a dome, warm chocolate fondue with strawberries, thick shake and dark chocolate frappe. yum! elaine came to join us because she had dinner with her aunt and was therefore not at Horoki earlier on. spent about an hour there just talking and hanging out.

picnic at royal botanical garden
Thursday, November 15, 2007 3:21 pm

after MUCH MUCH MUCH persuasion and irritating pestering, i finally went for a picnic at the royal botanical garden!!!! :D i dengan malunya made elaine reschedule her dinner with her friends, citing the one and only reason for the millionth time: i haven't had a picnic before and i'm leaving for good already so it's now or NEVER. yen li was very excited about the picnic as well because she said yes even though i just messaged her about it yesterday. miss kenix ng ffk us, saying she had some key problem. she's so going to regret it.

first off, yen li and i had exam in the morning; me ACM, she ACE. then went home to put my notes (open book exams :)) and grab my swatch pick-nick mat and the MAS blanket i "borrowed" from the airline (and have no intention of returning it). searched the whole house for it. was panicking and starting to feel really nervous and sad, before i discover that it was nicely tucked in a plastic bag in between the sofa and a box. phew! called elaine and yen straight away.. and off we went to safeway to get food. got some pita chips, my lemon tea, chips, dip and their blue cheese. then, tapau-ed KFC wicked wings and crispy strips.

we settled at a spot near the lake. the weather was so good. bright shining sun and cooling breeze. once we sat down, we started eating like nobody's business. ate and chatted under the sun. a handful of tourist were there. they were taking pictures. not sure if we were used as the backdrop. this man was taking videos of the surrounding, and he was also aiming his video at us, so yen said we should wave and smile. she even did a "V" sign. omg. hahahahahaha.

we moved to a spot under the tree after eating and was feeling a bit too hot. lay down side by side and looked at the sky. was just lazing around and hanging out. what a wonderful way to spend your day. it was so relaxing. feels as though my exams are over but in fact, i still have one more to go next wednesday.

just when we were deciding whether or not to leave, saw this man who was lying near to us, at our back. O-M-G! dia.... tak pakai seluar dalam. boleh mati. yen and i were both a bit shocked. and just when we decided to pack our stuff and leave, she accidentally turned to the back and saw something disgusting. he was playing with his.. "thing". *VOMIT* i think elaine sort of saw it too. so we had to look at the ground to avoid any undesirable scene and grab our stuff and faster leave the place. while packing, we realised he was gone. eeeeeewwww....wtf lah. ruin my lovely day. yucks.

didn't know what to do next so decided to go to chapel street as it was very near. but then, it was already 5+ and we figured most of the shops will be closing soon so no point shopping. plus, we were still full from lunch so no point eating dinner so early, even though we really really wanted to have the duck at pacific house. haiyor.. so, went home lor.

wah......... what a nice day. i feel so relaxed :D now i'm just waiting for my season finale of "so you think you can dance 3". neil haskell....*drool*

back to the future
Saturday, November 03, 2007 10:41 pm

miss cherryinng has a new blog but... i'm too lazy to change the address on her link. anyway, that is not what i want to talk about in this post. thing is, being the curious me, i clicked on a few links on her blog; friends i know from school but do not keep in touch cause we were from from classes and ergo, different groups of friends although we do hang out together sometimes back home, back in secondary school. convent kajang is not that big. you eventually know everyone in that 5 years. reading their blogs made me realised how detached i am from those who are back home, and how i didn't fully utilise my time here in melbourne as an international student.

first of all, the only person who i actively keep in touch with is leong pei xzan. fullstop. yeap, just one. the one whom i can talk to regarding anything, whether or not she knows what i'm actually talking about (misunderstandings do happen) but always there for me to just blab on about my life, social issues or what we both love, gossip. why just one, i ask myself. why not other friends too? and i think the reason might be distance. the fact that you have different lifestyles and different friends. it's hard to find a common topic where you both can talk about. when you know little or nothing about the other person's life, it's hard to share your life with them because of misconceptions. it's hard to engage people in your life when they're on the outside. i can't imagine with 100% accuracy what their situations are like, and likewise. thus, the standard reply of "oh i see" or plain silence. it is very awkward at times. maybe that is why i seldom talk to those who are not very involved in my life at the moment, or those times when i was here.

as time pass, the distance becomes more apparent because you have less to share with each other. i think that's why i haven't a clue what happened, is happening and will happen to people i know back home for as long as i am here. i have this feeling of being an alien when i go back because of this "emptiness". will i be able to cope with this, or will i be labelled as "the bitch who thinks she's better than us just because she studied in australia for 3 years"? i wonder.

moving on, i read about a friend who is heading overseas to further her studies in the near future. here i am, about to graduate and "balik kampung" when someone else my age is leaving malaysia to be an international student. and BAM! i realised how un-international student i was for the last 2 and a half years in aussieland. did i mix with the locals? no. did i participate in anything local-ish? no. did i spend my holidays trying to experience the aussie lifestyle/travelling around australia? no. did i watch the AFL at telstra dome/mcg? no. did i go clubbing or drinking at the pub every weekend? no. well well, so what did i do? i did embrace the fashion although not without some constraints. i just can't bring myself to whole-heartedly dress up according to the styles of supre. i did call mcdonald's macca's. i did pronounce "no" as "nou" and "water" as "wodah". i did use the phrase "no worries". i did walk more; heck, i actually prefer walking as opposed to tramming for short distance. i do want to lie down on the grass and enjoy the sun. i do want to go to the beach/for a picnic at the parks. have i absorbed the aussie culture at least a little bit? i wonder.

and being the brat that i am, i do want to experience life as an international student all over again, preferably in another country. and i do wish to stay in europe (countries like norway, sweden, germany, switzerland, italy) for a short period of time (about a year), to experience a new lifestyle, new culture and to learn a new language. and maybe to reflect on my life and to discover my ambition and my passion for anything in particular. i also have this thought that if i was able to live my life as an international "whatever" again, i will try to learn as many new things as possible: to use my "status" to the fullest. i have learned my lesson. i shall break my wall (like sena in long vacation) and welcome new challenges. can i? i wonder.

now that my time here in melbourne is numbered, i worry more and more about my life when i'm home. what will it be like? will i still be clueless on what's hot and what's not? will i be comfortable with the (new) lifestyle and culture? will i be judgemental on every little single thing i deem un-australian? will i be able to cope with these differences? i wonder.
